Game playing has been an impritant part of AI development as it creates situations which are both constrained (hance tractable) and require some form of intelligence (so worthwhile). In additoon two-person games require reaosning about the uncontrollable moves of the opponent as well as the (usually) deterministic state of the game itself. . Some types of games have been regarded as major, but possibly unobtainable, goals of AI, which when they were solved became milestones in the history of AI, this included when IBM Deep Blue mastered chess playing and when AlphaGo mastered Go. the latter was critical both as an example of the power of deep learning and as the launch point of the current phase of AI expansion.
